Plant Science

Thank you to the Knightly family for lending us their bulb vase.  We have been observing and tracking the growth of a bulb.

It is really cool to see the parts of flowers that are normally hidden underground.  We hope to see some flowers soon!

Fundations

This week we learned something special about short vowel words that end in F, L, or S.  In many words you need to double the F, L, or S at the end of the word.

Some examples of words that follow this rule are:  tell, fell, mess, Will, huff, and fluff.  We mark/code this bonus letter with a star above it!

Botanists at Work

We learned that plant scientists are called botanists.  We then watched a video called "Is It a Fruit or a Vegetable?"

We made a chart of some of our favorite fruits and vegetables and recorded a few notes to remind us of the differences between fruits and vegetables.

Leaves!

In science we are starting to learn about plants.
Leaves are an important part of plants.
We went outside to collect some fall leaves.
We used a rubbing technique to make an imprint in our science notebooks.
Then we wrote down some observations.

D Day

At the end of a writing unit we have a lesson called "D Day".  D Day stands for Decision Day.  This is the time for each student to look through all of their pieces and pick the one they want to "fancy up". In our classroom we show our favorite by putting a heart on it.

Geometry

We have been learning about shapes and have been enjoying some math shape puzzles!
