Penny Polishing

We rubbed pennies with water, lemon juice, and then salt with lemons to see what would happen.



Cranberry & Pumpkin Tasting

We celebrated the fall season with a little party. We sampled pumpkin seeds, pie, and bread. We also had cranberry juice, sauce, and craisins.  It was delicious!

FIELD TRIP
Our field trip to see “The Cat in the Hat” at the Quick Center at Fairfield University is this Monday, November 23.  This is just a reminder that we will not be going to the cafeteria for lunch.  ALL students must bring a lunch which we will eat in our classroom before the show!  Thank you in advance to Mrs. Pages and Mrs. Kim for being our chaperones.

Mystery Meal

We names today's science experiment "Mystery Meal" because we had to use 4/5 of our senses to figure out what was on the plates. Scientists use their senses when they observe. So we did the same thing!

High Tech High Touch

We enjoyed doing some experiments with the scientist from High Tech High Touch. 

The program was called "Force of Motion".  We learned some new science words: friction, inertia, gravity, attract, and repel.

Veterans Day

Our class was lucky to have Mr. Kim visit our class today. Mr. Kim is a lawyer now, but before that he was an Army Ranger. He showed us his army jacket and patches. He also showed us his dog tags.

ACADEMIC UPDATE
This is the last week of many of our units of study!

*Math Workshop:  We will be finishing up our second unit on geometry.  I will have some assessments to share with you at our conferences in three weeks. 

*Writing Workshop:  We are finishing our All About nonfiction chapter books this week.  They are turning out great!  This will be our second published writing piece.

*Reading Workshop:  We are finishing up our unit on “Word Detectives”.  This week we will be practicing how to retell the main events of our books in order.

*Science: A scientist from High Tech High Touch will be coming to do some experiments about the Force of Motion.  This program will be Wednesday.  It will be a great introduction to our next writing unit which will be on “Writing Like a Scientist”.
