We had a great program by the Stamford Museum. We learned about geography and also made a map of Connecticut. We learned that there are 3 big rivers in our state that all flow into the Long Iskand Sound.

It’s
Quin’s turn this week!
NEW YEAR
In
2015 our classroom goal word was “automatic”.
This was the word we used to become more independent with things like
unpacking, packing, writing our names on paper, etc. In 2016 our new goal word is “careful”. This means working carefully in all areas of
our school day. This can mean different
things in different subjects. For
example, in math, working carefully means checking to make sure numbers are
written correctly and checking our answers.
In writing being careful means checking for capital letters at the
beginning of every sentence.

Tessa’s turn again! We are on our second

ACADEMIC
UPDATE
The
business of the holiday season is behind us and it’s a great time to refocus on
our school work. This will mean setting some
new goals and starting some new units of study.
*Math
Workshop:
We will begin Unit 4 of the Investigations program. This unit focused on data analysis. The unit is divided into three sections:
Sorting
Collection & Representing Data
Comparing Age Data
*Reading
Workshop: Our new unit is called “Getting to Know
Characters”. During this unit we will
take a deeper look at the characters in our books. We will learn about
character traits, make connections to characters, and
*Writing
Workshop:
Our next unit of study is called “Writing Reviews”. This is persuasive writing. We will learn about using details to support
our opinions. During this unit we will
write reviews of books, movies, restaurants, games, etc. We will launch this unit by writing about
collections. There is a green paper
attached to this newsletter explaining our collection ‘show & tell’.
