MISS DENNEN
UPDATE
Our
student-teacher, Miss Dennen, has been doing a great job! She will be with our class until the end of
April. Some of you have sent in a
book--thank you for sending in the “secret” gift. There is still time to send one in. I have made dedication labels which your
child will sign for the inside cover. If
you would like to contribute towards the other gift ($3), that would be
appreciated.

ACADEMIC
UPDATE
*Math
Workshop: We just completed a unit on measurement. We will be starting Unit 6 in math. This unit will focus on addition and
subtraction strategies.
*Writing
Workshop:
Last week we published our “How To” books.
This week we will start a very fun unit called “Scenes to Series”. This will be fiction writing. Your child will be inventing a main character
and writing several stories about this character. They will publish a very professional hard
cover book at the end of this unit.
*Handwriting: A few weeks
ago we started practicing our handwriting in a new way. We are writing joke books. Each week we add new jokes to our joke book. We are learning that there are different
kinds of jokes like riddles, puns, and knock knocks.
*Reading
Workshop:
To go along with our fiction writing unit, we will be taking a deep look at
characters. This unit will focus on how readers learn about the characters in a
book. This will include noticing
dialogue and reading with expression.

Read Across America Day
We celebrated with an assembly about Dr. Seuss' life and books. Then we had green eggs and ham for breakfast. We had extra time to read some popular Dr. Seuss books. We also LOVED seeing each other's costumes.
