-Chunky Monkey (are there any chunks you know?  Ex:  candle)
-Flippy Dolphin (try both short and vowel sounds)
-Skippy Frog (skip the word and read the rest of the sentence to look for clues)
-Trying Lion (try, try again…use all the above strategies)
-Helpful Kangaroo (if nothing is working, ask someone else!)

Field Trip Letter

(This is a copy of the letter that was sent home with your child)
October 13, 2015
Dear First Grade Parents,

On Monday, November 23rd, all first grade classes will be going to a special performance at the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University.  We will be attending a play based on the classic Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat story.  This is a great opportunity for our first graders to see literature brought to life!

We will travel by bus, leaving Ox Ridge School at 11:15 for the noon performance. We will eat lunch in our classrooms before the trip.  All children should bring lunch on this day. We will not be going to the cafeteria.  Students will have a snack when we return to school after the play.
Tickets to the show are paid for from the PTO Enrichment Fund.  The charge for transportation is $7, due by next Tuesday, October 20th.   If you are paying cash, please send it in an envelope with your child’s name written on the outside.  If you are paying by check, please make it out to “Ox Ridge Activity Account”.

Each class is able to take two chaperones. Your child’s teacher will arrange for the chaperones.

Sincerely,
The First Grade Team

Problem Solvers

We started working on solving word problems. This week our goal was to write a great solution with 3 parts: picture, numbers, and words.
